Canuck Observations #1

Yes, Petunia and the Chicken have just returned from 3 weeks in the frozen north.

From Melbourne to Sydney to Honolulu where we were forced to go through US customs (for no particular reason except maybe so George could record our fingerprints and photos). Then to Vancouver where we stopped a few days with Ms Canada’s brother.

A hired car took us 2500km down through southern BC and Alberta then up into the Rockies to Jasper where we caught the Canadien (one of the worlds great train journeys) to Toronto where we stayed with her sister and another brother. After 3 weeks away, a 25hr plane trip sees us back in Melbourne with an extreme case of jet lag.

Photos to follow, but highlights included:

  • Cruising to the islands from Vancouver
  • Being snowed on
  • Black bears, deer, beavers, elk, moose, mountain sheep, muskrat, groundhogs, squirrels.
  • Waterton national park
  • “Head smashed in” Buffalo jump
  • The Rockies…. amazing! Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper…
  • Glaciers and more glaciers
  • Food, way too much of it – plus my first pig tail.
  • Pies. Pies. Pies!
  • Two and a half days of total relaxation on the train
  • Mennonite country – fascinating..
  • Niagara falls, but not the tourists.
  • The glass floor of the CN tower
  • Toronto beggars and vagrants
  • Friendly, courtious Canadians
  • Hockey-mad Canadians
  • Insane, speeding Canadian drivers

and more…
